Trader Joe's Spring Simmer Pot & Bouquet
Welcome back to another blog! Spring has officially sprung, and that means I want my house to smell like Spring as well. While I love burning candles, that’s not always the healthiest option due to the chemicals. (Don’t get me wrong though, I’ll never give up my candles.) However, one way to achieve delicious aromas in your home naturally is through simmer pots! What is a simmer pot you might ask? A simmer pot is a pot filled with water and seasonal ingredients, such as fruits, herbs, and spices, which is then simmered on the stove to create a fragrant and inviting aroma in the home. It can be used as a natural air freshener and can also add moisture to the air. I first became familiar with simmer pots around the winter time, but now enjoy doing them any time of year. I recently went to Trader Joe’s to get ingredients for my Citrus, Mint and Rose Spring Simmer Pot. I wound up being able to create a bouquet with the leftover Roses. Continue reading for instructions on how I created the perfect Spring Simmer Pot, as well as tips on how to make a Rose bouquet look fuller and last longer.
Simmer Pot Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Orange
2 Limes
2 Mint Leave Sprigs
Bouquet of White Roses
Directions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil
Thinly slice oranges
Thinly slice limes
Massage Mint Leaves to release aroma, remove leaves from stem
Remove outer petals of each Rose
Toss all ingredients into pot
Sitr and reduce to a simmer
Simmer for up to 2-3 hours, adding water if necessary
Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the spring scents!
White Rose Bouquet Instructions:
Remove any green leaves from stem
Remove the outer petals of each Rose, specifically any with discoloration or that are wilted
Set discarded petals aside (you’ll use in your simmer pot)
Place the stem of the Rose between your palms and twist back and forth, this will allow the petals to open up and create a fuller look
For an added full look, blow into the top of the Rose to open up the petals
Cut stem to desired length
Make sure you cut stem on a diagonal, this allows the water to penetrate the stem better
Place in a vase of your choice and enjoy!
